Since becoming a freelance designer I have designed a number of productions, First for Hwyl a Fflag, and then for Theatr Gwynedd, on average about one a year since. Most of these were directed by Graham Laker who I first worked with when I was resident designer with Theatr Cymru and he was a lecturer in the Drama Department at Bangor University. He later became Artistic Director with Theatr Gwynedd. The productions included, “O law I Law” by T Rowland Hughes, “Y Gellis Geirios” - The Cherry Orchard, “Pwy Sy’n Sal” - Moliere Double Bill, this design was part of my entry to the TIME+SPACE exhibition along with “Dyn Hysbys” - Faith Healer. The latter was also at TIME+SPACE and PQ99. It was directed by Sian Summers who followed Graham as Artistic Director. My last design for Theatr Gwynedd was for “Dynes Ddela Leenane” - The Beauty Queen of Leenane, directed by Ian Rowlands, the current Artistic Director.
After a few years without doing any theatre design it was a great pleasure to be asked by Cefin Roberts, director of Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru to design “Hen Rebel” by Valmai Roberts. This is a large scale production telling the story of the 1904 Welsh Religious Revival led by the enigmatic Evans Roberts. It opened at Theatr Sherman in Cardiff on Oct 6th 2005 followed by a national tour of Wales.
